720p60 to 720p24
Hi All –
I have a big question I need answered.
I shot a film on 35mm converted it to HD 1080p24 (23.976) which has many VFX in it. Some of our VFX are to have video inserted into it shot on the HVX.
Somehow my DP shot our footage at 720p60 (59.94) – it’s fine that it is 960×720 as it will never take up more than that space, but I am confused and confounded at the frame rate. As I look through some of the frames, it seems some are repeated (not unique as they would be at 720p24). But my real question is – how do I get a proper convert to 23.98 so that I can match it to my HD footage. (So I can deal with the two formats in after effects).
(I have Final Cut, Avid (which the project was cut on), After Effect and Cinema Tools at my disposal).

Was it shot 720p24…so 24 over 60? Or was it shot straight 720p60?

the only info I see DVCPRO HD (720p60)Other question –
when I was experimenting with TIFF sequences in final cut I was getting a file size that was less than 1mb large, where as if I did a single tiff image it was 2.3mb (where as my 1920×1080 HD footage is 11mgs). Also it seemed like the color may have changed a bit.finally – I know the size is 960×720 but for the true 16×9 corrected aspect I need them to be 960×540 – the only way I can do this it seems is physically changing this in compressor – which means I can’t do a quick time conversion in final cut to make the tiff sequence (as that comes out in the 4:3 format – but is one step less than doing it inc compressor). But wither way I am still getting a tiny tiff sequence.

I just wanted to add that I imported the footage into an avid project set at 720p59.94 to test out the tiff sequencing and I have a 3mg tiff but the colors seem a little duller.
and now I’ve completely confused myself – looking at the quicktime final cut made it seems the size is 1248×702 – so is this the size I should be exporting the footage?
(ok now when I export the avid at 1248×702 I get a 5meg file that seems to have the same coloring as the QT file, perhaps slightly duller, but not as dull as at 960×540) (rgb mode uncompressed Tiff file from avid export)

Was it as easy as using FCP Tools->DVCPRO HD Frame Rate Converter and selecting remove duplicate frames?
(seems in the test area I scrolled through, as I go frame by frame through the 23.98 one and the 59.94 one that the movement follows and the duplicate frames were taken out).
(whereas if I conform it to 23.98 in cinema tools it gives me that slow mo feel – which I guess is what the 59.94 is for?)
(still need help on the Tiff sequencing if this is true)

NO clue about the TIFF stuff…sorry.
OK…the 59.94 stuff. Was it shot 24p? or does it look smooth like video? If it is smooth, then the Frame Rate Converter won’t work. It needs to see the frame rate flags.
I had good experiences with the FIlm Effects filter by https://www.nattress.com. Mixing 23.98 footage with 59.94 footage that was shot intended for use as slow motion, but I needed to play normal speed.
