720p60 bad playback
Greetings, I am shooting with a JVC GY HD 250 in 720p60. I am editing on a Mac Pro 8 core. my 2nd internal drive is for video which is 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb. FCP easy set up is HDV 720p60. when i play clips back in the timeline they freeze after a few seconds and I get a frames dropped message. My settings are for safe RT. The weird thing is when I playback the clips on my OLD G5 attached to a Lacie 1 TB firewire 800 drive, the clips playback fine. When I play the clips back on the Mac Pro in QT player they seem to be ok. I’ve trashed my preferences on the Mac Pro, still no luck. Any thoughts would be great,

How full is the media drive on your Mac Pro.
There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

The media drive is about 2/3 full.

Do you run DiskWarrior, TechTools or any other application to keep your HDs directories in good shape?

Probably because a 1TB LaCie FW800 unit is two drives striped together instead of a single drive like the one you have inside your Mac. Multiple drives striped together are always faster than a single drive. This is why so many of us recommend RAIDs for video editing vs. single drives.

Hi Travis,
I think is not much difficult to know the origin of this issue.
Plug the FW 800 to the Mac Pro and open the project with the media from this disk.
If its works well, the problem is the SATA drive.
If doesn’t works, the reason is clearly the MacPro system.
