    hi,

    – i am little confused why clip shot with the 720p/25p i have to render after I edit it to the DVCPROHD 720p25 timeline and if I edit clip shot with …25pn settings, it playing natively without need of rendering?

    – what timeline settings i have to use to work with 25p footage?

    – why with 25p i can record only 4 minutes and with 25pn i can do 8 minutes on my 4Gb card? why 25p files double big, is it better quality? maybe it making me able to slowdown my footage by changing framerate afterward?

    thank you in advance
    Andrew

[Andrew B.] “- what timeline settings i have to use to work with 25p footage?”

720p50. 25p is actually 720p50, but with a “film feel.” While 25PN is 25 actual frames per second. That is why 25PN works in your 720p25 timeline, while the 720p25p needs rendering.

Because, as I stated, 720p25 is recording 50fps, while 25PN is recording half that, 25fps.

Are you running FCP 5.1.2? It is there. In the Easy Setups, make sure you have the SHOW ALL box selected.

in the “Item Properties” i see it is indeed 50 fps footage, as you wrote, Shane. Does it mean i can somehow interpret it as 25 fps and get real 2x slowmotion?

thank you for your kind input,
    Andrew

Well, you might have to do this with Compressor, because the DVCPRO HD Frame Rate Converter does not work on PAL footage. But I think Compressor will do this.

And you should still have that preset…..hmmm..

[Shane Ross] “Well, you might have to do this with Compressor”

I do not like this idea bacause i want to work with footage as it is. Why I have to convert it?

I do not have such easy setup. yes, i checked “show all” and nothing there. Maybe somehow I have to change frame rate from 25 to 50 for my timeline. i cant figure out how to do it.

Also i want to note that 720p25 has compressor (codec) “DVCPRO HD 720p50” but it works natively with my 25pn (25 fps) but not at all with 25p (50 fps).

You said you wanted to slow it down. That is something you can only get good results with by using compressor. You should duplicate your clip first, then use the CONFORM option. But, if you don’t want to…

[Andrew B.] ” Maybe somehow I have to change frame rate from 25 to 50 for my timeline. i cant figure out how to do it.”

Try this. Duplicate the sequence setting in the System Settings, and then change the frame rate to 50.

I have to humbly apologize. I do not see DVCPRO HD 720p50. I was looking at HDV 720p50. There is only 720p25, and I cannot create a setting for 50fps.

    Wonder why not?
