I have a DVCPro HD tape that is 25fps recorded over 720p50. The timecode of the tape runs at 25fps.

I can, using the Blackmagic Deck Control app, capture from that tape using:
    – RS422 Deck Control – Frame Rate: 25
    – Video Input: Blackmagic HDTV 720
    – Source: Blackmagic HDTV 720p 50Hz 10bit
    – Audio: DeckLink Audio
    – Compression: Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) – FPS: 25

With that I get a ProRes 720p clip that runs at 25fps as it should.

However with FCP I cannot get it to capture 720p25 from the tape.

I create a Capture Preset that is:
Using HDTV 720 for video input
    Blackmagic HDTV 720p 50Hz – 8 Bit using NTSC
    25 frames per second
Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) at Best quality.
    24 bits per pixel
    1280 by 720….

Then I have tried that with various Device Control settings including:
    – Blackmagic HDTV 720p 50
    – Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 50

And created my own (duplicating the 720p 50 one) that has the Frame Rate set to 25.

    None of this works.

I cannot get FCP to make 25fps clips, with 25fps timecode (as per the tape) at all.

The deck is question is a AJ-HD1400 and the tape was recorded on the same deck a couple of months ago from Avid (although Edit to Tape was impossible, presumably for a similar reason).

The project I am putting this into is 1080i50, so I have also tried putting the deck into 720p -> 1080i mode, which works (plays the tape correctly, is controllable) but it also interlaces the image which is pretty nasty from a duplicated frame source like this.

I need this to work so that I can batch capture footage from these tapes.

    Hi Dylan,
I had the same problems a few days ago.
I think your problem is your setting on the AJ1400. As I recall you need to set the system frequency to 50/25. I think there are two more adjustments in the menu under Operations and Basics that you need to change. Hope it helps.
