I have had success capturing my footage shot with the Varicam at 720 24p. To my project in Avid HD (settings 720/59.94). Now though I’m dead in the water. I have had no luck sending it back through firewire to the 1200a deck and into an HD monitor. I’m somewhat new to this, so correct me if my thinking is incorrect. My plan was to capture this footage then downcovert to SD for a 30i project. Is this possible? I know the deck has a SDI-SD out on it but as I said I’m unable to preview to an HD monitor let alone NTSC.
Oh, so all this makes since my footage is shot on a blue screen I have rendered a window burn over the HD footage which is what I would like to downconvert edit in 30i project, and then export from 720p project into AE for keying. I’m really in a pinch here. So fire away if you guys have any input. Thanks!

The solution here that I did not mention is an export of your footage to a 720 x 486 NTSC QuickTime movie. That is in the case you simply want to downconvert your footage to a squeezed image. Which is fine in my case. The trick to this is to make sure in your export settings click the format button and be sure your video codec is DV/DVCPRO. Without this I got an export error every time.
