720p video is coming in grainy
I’m importing video I just shot at 720p and 30fps, and it is coming into AE grainy.
I have checked it on another machine, and the video itself is fine.
As for my troubleshooting, I am using AE cs3 pro, I have tried various composition settings with no luck, and am importingt the video by dragging from the p2 reader directly to AE’s project bin.
Could there be a setting I have messed up in AE? Does this problem sound familiar to anyone.
Any help would be great!

Dave’s Stock Answer #1:If the footage you imported into AE is any kind of the following — Native HDV, any flavor of MPEG, mp4, avchd, m2t, mts, H.261 or H.264 — you need to convert it to a different codec.
These kinds of footage use temporal, or interframe compression. They have keyframes at regular intervals, containing complete frame information. However, the frames in between do NOT have complete information. Interframe codecs toss out duplicated information.
In order to maintain peak rendering efficiency, AE needs complete information for each and every frame. But because these kinds of footage contain only partial information, AE freaks out, resulting in a wide variety of problems.

The Panasonic P2 I am using should be recording in DVCPRO HD.
As for conversions, how would you recommend going about that. I have never had to convert raw video from the p2 before.
