720p to Blu-ray upres?
I have shot a 92 minute doc on the HPX170 & HVX in DVCPRO 720 24p. I am going to replicate my first Blu-ray and wondering if anyone has advice or experience they wish to share.
Should I upres to 1080p for the Blu-ray master? I have read that 720p is just as good as 1080p- but I find that hard to believe.
Also I am debating between a BD25 or BD50. I will have about 160 minutes of content. I will be compressing from FCP7 to Compressor 3.
Basically I want to get the best quality image on a Blu-ray from my 720p footage on Blu-ray. Any advice?

You can make 720p Blurays as well. It doesn’t have to be 1080.
how are you authoring it?

Check out Bruce Nazarian’s book “Fast Path to Blu-Ray for the Mac.
I make 720p Blu-Rays and they look great. I use Compressor along with Matrox Max and Episode Pro to encode an h.264 file and drop that into Toast 10. FYI, my encode times are very fast.

Thanks guys. I am authoring it through Encore, making a menu in After Effects. My concern is that as more and more consumers buy 1080p TV’s, and my project has been mastered in 720p- will I be outdated soon? And perhaps the bigger question is if the source material was shot 720P, will uprezing in Compressor to 1080p really be beneficial?

No. 720p is still HD.

Is it possible? Yes. Beneficial? Not really. I’d suggest to keep it at 720p.
