I’m compiling a Blu-ray disc of family movie clips from over the past 50 years. I’d like to know whether I should burn my Blu-ray to be 720p or 1080i. I am using Sony DVD Architect Pro 5.2. My target device is a 1080p HD NTSC TV (it has 1080i and 720p capability).

My source video comprises cine film that was converted to PAL DV, other PAL DV, NTSC DV and Mpeg-2, 29.97 and 30 fps 640×480 progressive MJPEG, 29,97 and 30 fps 1280×720 progressive MP4. ALL PAL sources have been converted to NTSC DV.

    Thanks.

If you’re trying to build it all into one disc, you have a bit of a question here for sure. Given that you seem to only have 720p HD material, as well as quite a bit of HD material, the easy answer is that if you want just one format, make it 720/60p. You really want 720/30p, but that’s not a supported Blu-ray format. Sources converted to NTSC/DV from film may be encoded as 480/60i, but there’s certainly no actual interlacing going on there, so they should look fine in progressive.
