720p for Slowmo and 1080p for SmoothCam?
Hey all,
I’m trying to mix two kinds of shots in my project, all shot on a Canon 7D:
1. Slo-Mo shots, done in 720p @ 60fps, conformed to 30fps in Cinema Tools before converting to ProRes for editing in FCP
and
2. SmoothCam shots, done in 1080p @ 30fps, shot with the extra resolution so I have some crop leniency when it comes to using the SmoothCam filter in FCP, also being edited in ProResI want my final project to be exported at 720p and 30fps, and I’d like to edit both kinds of clips in the same timeline, but I know FCP will force them to be in the same format. Logically, I should work in 1080p at 30fps in the timeline, but then I’d have to upscale the 720p footage… just so I could downscale it again on the final export. Or I could work in all 720p… but then I wouldn’t have the extra resolution I want for the SmoothCam effect.
I’m going to start shooting footage for this project soon, I’ve only done test shots so far just to confirm that the effects actually work individually, which they do.
Should I just edit the SmoothCam video first in FCP, export it, and then use it in a new sequence with the Slo-Mo? Help!
