We have footage that was shot by a team out in New York, and when I bring it in to FCP 7 via Log and Transfer, it looks washed out and not very vivid. It looks like crap, to be more exact.
Here’s the info about the footage when I open the file in Quicktime.
    DVC PRO HD 720p 60
    960 x720 (1248 x 72), millions
    FPS 29.97
It looks terrible when opened in Quicktime player as well.
I’ve been cutting the footage in a sequence that matches the above settings.

We have been using shot by another team that was shot in DVC PRO HD 1080p30, and the stuff looks stellar.

The strange thing is that when the 720p files get copied into a 1080p30 sequence, and then that sequence is duplicated and opened, the file is displayed vertically squished down, it looks great.

Not sure what’s happening here, and if that made any sense.

    Thank you so much!

    best,
    Gordon

Must have been how their camera was setup, have you contacted them?

It’s not the difference between 1080 and 720, but rather the colorimetry setups of the cameras.

I dont understand the part about vertically squished down looking great, though.
