I have been able to ingest video from a Panasonic HVX200 P2 card that was shot at 720p/30pn, and 720p/60pn into Final Cut Pro 5.1.1, and I have my sequence set to DVCPRO HD – 720p30, but when I drop the footage in, it comes up as needing to render. (The render is real time on a Powerbook G4 1.5GHZ 1.5RAM)

Am I missing something to get this footage into its correct timeline/sequence? Or does all footage shot ‘native’ require a render to playback in FCP?

    Thanks!

If your sequence is 720p30, and you drop 30pn footage onto the timeline, it should appear normal. If, however, you drop 60pn footage onto the timeline, you will have to render it.

What do you mean by the “render is real time?” I don’t understand that statement.

I’ll have to double check all the camera settings and sequence settings. I swear I had them set to the same, but I did not set up the camera, I was only told what camera settings are. Should i be set at 30fps instead of 29.97 in my sequence?

“Render time is real time”.. Sorry, that was me saying it took 12 seconds to render a 12 second clip, which is totally dependent on hardware. 🙂

    NO
your 30p footage is actually 29.97p so there is no issue with down-conversion to Standard def.
