    Hi there folks,

I have a client who is shooting a job in 720p 25. Says sony doesn’t recommend shooting 720p 50 (which I have an available option for in “source in” prefs ).

Hmm, am I missing something? How come I can’t see a 720p 25 option in the M100 1.5.1 source in set up?

If 720p 25 is unavailable in M100 what do you guys think is the best way of handling this footage?

    Cheers
    Paul

On what format is he shooting? This whole 720p thing is pretty messed up. We recently had to deliver something in 720p50 on DVCProHD (source was 1080i), which was easily done with the Kona3 cross conversion. But the 720p50 is actually named 720p25 in the DVCProHD deck setting, and while it writes progressive images it “names” them like interlaced frames in its timecode.

Hi Floh, thanks for your response.

He’s shooting on a Sony EX3 camera which as you will no doubt know records XDCAM to SXS cards. So I’ll probably be bringing them into the suite using the Sony SXS reader.

For some other projects I’ve actually been shooting stuff on the EX3 @ 720p 50 just to match the settings on the M100 suite input setting, but now that I know sony doesn’t recommend this (whatever that means) I’m looking at going back to 25 but as I say cant see it in the M100 input settings.

I’ve sorta been using 720p for drive space and cause it’s all non-broadcast industrial stuff, this seems to be keeping clients happy at this point.

    Cheers
    Paul

It should just work from XDCAM Transfer. Where exactly are you looking for it? It’s in the video standards menu source code in 1.5.1. That same list is used for the hardware source, media standard, new program standard and others. I can see where it might not be enabled for the hardware source but that shouldn’t matter for you.
