720 vs. 1080 – HDX900 DVCPRO-HD
Forgive me if you’ve heard this one before, but . . . about a year ago, conventional wisdom amidst all the post houses I worked with, was that it was best to shoot 720 on this camera, and then to up-convert in post to 1080.
We did this on a mini-series, with no trouble. Recently though, people have been wavering, and saying that doing an in-camera up-conversion (capturing at 1080, 23.98) was just as good. But doesn’t the camera only capture 1080i, not 1080p?
Additionally, I spoek to an operator who says he “sees more through the view-finder” when the camera is set to 1080.
I would most appreciative on any thoughts as to which gives a superior image.
