Hi Guys working on a show in late september and I have just been asked if this will work?
Can I use a Varicam in 720 which is outputting 59.94 and when I upres to 1080 can I convert it to 30p?
We tried doing this last year going from 720 59.94 to 30p but the timecode wouldnt cooperate, the only way the signal would come in was as a variable framerate and the TC would always default to 24 fps,
which didnt work for us.
So now I have been asked if we can upres to 1080 and get the 30p and 30frames TC?

You won’t get 30p from 60p, you will rather get 60i (29.97fps).
If you put the frame rate of the Varicam @ 30p, you will then get 30p on the cross convert from the 60p Varicam stream.
