I shot a project with the HVX200 and the setting in teh camera was 720 24pn (progressive native.) In Final Cut Studio 2, under easy setup, I chose the DVCPRO HD 720p 24…my problem is what is the timeline, do I edit in 23.98 or the NTSC timeline which is 29.98.

I plan to eventually export this on a D-5 tape but for film festival screeners can I edit on 23.98 and pull a 3:2 pulldown OR should I just edit on a 29.98 timeline…need some help, thanks.

I would think that you’d want to cut with 23.98 with 3:2 pulldown. That way, you can add pulldown to get to 29.97 for standard def outputs more easily.

    that’s what I thought Kev, thanks…also, why under SEQUENCE SETTINGS / QT Video Setting/COMPRESSOR, there isn’t a DVCPRO HD 720p24 — by default it’s a 720p60…

Edit at the frame rate/size you shot in 720p24. If you need to layoff to D5 it will be easy to cross convert to 1080 23.98 at that time. No reason to edit @ 29.97 as FCP will not add the pulldown correctly and you can always make an SD master later from your 24p timeline. 720p60 is just the official name of the codec.
