MREG is a delivery format and isn’t meant for editing. You should decompress the video to Uncompressed, or Compressor: None than re-import.

Hi everyone

I had the same kind of problem a while ago with premiere pro 1.5. I realized that if I don’t delete all the rendered preview files before exiting Premiere, it takes few minutes to open it the next time. Since then, every time I open a session (project), it takes few seconds. Even with a 30 or 40 minute long project. Hope it helps

Hi Ed !

The easiest way to delete all the rendered preview files (with Premiere Pro 1.5) is by using the menu at the top of your screen:

sequence – delete render files

By doing so, the little green horizontal line on top of your timeline will turn red. You don’t really need to know the rendered preview files you’ll need later because the next time you do a render, Premiere will create (or recreate) them anyway. I agree that sometimes you may do a render to have a better quality overview of a transition or special effects, but if you don’t delete all the rendered preview files before exiting Premiere, it may take more and more time to open your project the next time. That’s what happened to me for a 46 minute project.

You also have access to the rendered preview files by going in your Adobe Premiere Pro Preview Files folder and there you’ll find a sub folder with the extension .PRV which is once again, created automatically by Premiere. If you delete the files this way, as soon as you go back on your project, a window will apprear asking “where is the file xxxxxxxxx ?” Then click “ignore”.

Remember, video takes a lot of space and when you have a huge amount of rendered files, it doesn’t mean they will be in a proper order on your hard drive. Specially if you didn’t render the whole project in one shot. At the end, when you do an export, your computer may struggle to process your project and the result can be blurry transitions, pixelised images, delayed video-sound sequences, etc.

The bad thing is if you have a long project and you realize at the end (after an export) that you made a mistake and you need to change a little text line for example, you may have to render to whole project again. Time consuming ! But even after that, I prefer to delete all the rendered preview files when I exit Premiere for 3 reasons. First, you save time to open your project, second you don’t have rendered files here and there anywhere on your hard drive to avoid chances of having like I said before, blurry transitions, pixelised images, delayed video-sound sequences, etc. And third, you increase your hard drive timelife. Specially if you use, like me, the same hard drive for masters, rendered files and final export. Ouch ! I know ! I know !

Don’t forget to defrag, it helps !

Thanks so much for your very complete explanation. This really answers a lot of my questions. I’ve only done a few projects with Premier Pro, but I’ve noticed that every time I start a new project, it just runs slower and slower.
When I get home tonight, I’m going to do exactly as you suggest. I am sure it will make a huge difference.
