6hrs into first major FCPX project
Got some training from Noah and Sam at FCPworks before embarking on a 10 week 4K 3D project in FCPX.
I’d previously tried to make the workflow split between Adobe and Resolve for delivery. Just started editing 1 days worth of footage, which includes 2 streams of 4K red footage already encoded to 4K ProRes, a Blackmagic camera at 1080p and a master audio stream. Each day has 6 sessions with 40 minutes of recording time, meaning each session has 120 mins of rushes. Each weeks filming is getting up to 15TB of data including proxies, audio and raw rushes…!
The previous workflow was allowing me to edit and deliver around 1 days rushes per day with an overnight render for delivery in Resolve. FCPX is cutting the editing process down by at least half, and I’m encoding whilst I’m editing.
Brilliant, just brilliant. I still can see us editing projects in Premiere, but all things considered for a first attempt at something new – both software and delivery method, its hugely impressive. The multicam function is v impressive, and encode times to ProRes are really good.
Occasionally having crash issues, but we think they are being narrowed down to an issue with the Ultrastudio 4K driver/thunderbolt 2 connection.
Thanks Sam and Noah – you’ve got us off to a flying start.
