6.6.2 doesnt work with FCP 6.02 on 10.4.11
Posted by Dubs Inc on November 30, 2007 at 5:43 pmWere having all kinds of time code issues with the new drivers. I get tape unthread errors and new tape inserted in the middle of capturing from a Sony Digibeta using Final Cut, capturing accuracy is 30/70 that it will digitize on the right time codes. The system worked fine before the update and I cant find an old driver that will work now. Any suggestions? This is happening on both our Intel based MACS and Power PCs using Decklink HD Pro PCI and PCIe cards. Also the decklink capture tool is not frame accurate either.

December 1, 2007 at 8:13 amI can confirm this problem on another configuration with Mac Pro, HD Pro PCIe and 10.4.11, so I believe the issue does only concern the HD Pro series. Impossible to capture more than a few seconds of video because FCP announces a tape of deck problem and aborts the process.

December 1, 2007 at 5:43 pmThis is a problem we first saw back in July with Decklink Extreme SD and a Sony 1500A DV Deck. The only thing that changed was the fact that we went from G5’s to Mac Pro’s. This is something to do with the fact that the polling of the deck happens so fast on the Mac Pro’s that certain decks don’t respond fast enough and Final Cut reports “Tape trouble. Check VTR. Do not attempt to eject tape or use transport without checking VTR first.”
A patch from Apple did nothing to solve this and to this day the assistant editors have to just put up with restarting the batch digitize when this happens while loading the dailies.
Also capture frame accuracy on the Decklink’s with a G5 is 100%, and the same setup on a Mac Pro is only about 75%. -

December 1, 2007 at 10:06 pmI will do some testing on my system, but I’m not having any issues with the combo of software you mention. I have the BMD HD Extreme card and a Betacam 1800 deck and an HVR-M25U.

December 3, 2007 at 9:04 pmI’m seeing the same exact bug. BIG PROBLEM. We had to downgrade to the 6.4 drivers to fix it.
capturing from any type of deck (digi-beta, beta, dv-cam) eventually results in this message: “a new tape has been inserted” as you scrub around the tape. makes any kind of significant capturing impossible.
I didn’t see it on all of my systems so my thinking is that it’s a result of the 6.6.2 Drivers w/ the HD PCIe Pro cards.
BUT DO NOT UPGRADE TO 6.6.2 if you have these cards. They WILL BUG OUT. BM, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GET YOUR DRIVERS FIGURED OUT. THERE HASN’T BEEN A STABLE BUILD FOR FCP 6, YET.

December 19, 2007 at 8:42 pmStill not working for us, tech support seems to email me back every seven days. I will reply to the questions asked of me and not hear anything for a week. I know you guys are busy but we are having to re do work over and over till we get a time code accurate captures in FCP v5 and v6. The BM deck control app seems to work. Does anyone know how to write batch capture scripts for that program? I dont see docs on that anywhere.

February 22, 2008 at 7:19 pmI have been running into this same issue since we upgraded from G5’s to Intel MacPros. Constant “new tape has been inserted” messages in FCP; flashing video input while shuttling, errors finding timecode. Seems to me like there is a big problem with the deck control portion of the card.
Running an 8 core MacPro with 10.5.2 OS, FCP 6.0.2, Quicktime 7.4.1, BlackMagic Decklink HD Pro Dual Link. Using it with a Sony HDCam SRW-5500 deck.
Has anyone made any headway with this issue…?
