6.5 plugins don’t work?!
I started on after effects 6.5 and I had purchased chris and trish meyers books “creating motion graphics with after effects vol. 1 & 2”. Those books came with decent free plugins meant to pull you into buying the rest of whatever companies plugins. That being said I had some decent free fully functional plugins that I utilized everynow and again, but since upgrading to CS3 (on a mac) these plugins don’t work anymore, After Effects doesn’t recognize them. And I have tried them on 7.0 (on a pc) and they worked fine, now I put them on a mac with 8.0 and it doesn’t recognize them, is there something I can do or am I screwed.

You have to understand that there were changes made under the hood in AE when they updated to CS3. Because of that many plug-ins required updating for them to work properly.
Most plug-in companies have fixed their products and many have offered free updates. However – if you got them for free your probably out of luck. The whole point of giving away those plug-ins is to get you hooked into their product line. Why else would they give them away for free?
That said, shy people get nothing… You could always try either emailing the Meyers or the company that made the product and see what they have to say. You never know.
