I have looked at forums for this already, but they still don’t completely answer my question.

I am a journalism student in an art program here at UIUC, and I am working on a short video project, which I want to shoot on a Canon 7D and work with in Final Cut Pro.

I want my final output to be 720p HD at 30fps, but because I want to have the option of having more frames to work with if I want to slow down some of the clips, I want to shoot at 60fps (The 7D can shoot 60p video at 720).

I assume that I’ll need to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the H264 files out of the camera to Apple ProRes, which I can then import into FCP to edit. However, what should I do if I want to have the flexibility of speeding up and slowing down clips in the timeline during editing? Do I need to choose the slow-mo clips first, convert those to the correct speed, and then edit everything in 30fps? or can I just work in 60p in the timeline?

I plan on doing test shots on Monday so any responses over the weekend would be helpful. I’m very interested in DSLR shooting because I am planning on purchasing a 7D sometime in the near future, depending on how this goes.

You want to look at this:

Canon do a plug-in (download from their website) which brings the footage in and converts it to ProRes without you having to convert the files outside of FCP. I’ve just tried it and it’s nice and quick and easy.

I do have one question though. Will using Cinema Tools the convert the 59.94 clips to 29.97 change their speed as well (50% speed)? If not, how would I do that? Thanks.

    Right.
Is a process that doesn’t needs rendering.
just change something on the file-metadata to make it play at 29.97.
DO ALWAIS THIS ON DUPLICATED CLIPS.
    This is not undoable.
