Activity Forums VEGAS Pro 60fps Slow Motion not working

  • 60fps Slow Motion not working

I recently bought a DSLR which records 720/60p, however, when I put the 60fps video on my Vegas 10d timeline with the template properties set to 24p video…my 60fps clips don’t play in slow motion. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. What am I missing? I can see from the imported video’s properties that the footage was indeed shot at 60p. I have tried prerendering the clips, I’ve rendered the clips, I’ve messed with all the settings on both the camera and the Vegas template–nothing.

My only thought is that my new camera is not recording what it says it is. Any ideas?

I should add that I’m aware that I can go into the video clip’s properties and change the “playback rate” to slow it down…but why should I have to do that if I already have 60fps footage on a 24fps timeline??

When I had Vegas 9 several years ago numberous times I imported 60fps footage onto my 24p timeline and it played just fine.

Do you have “Adjust source media to better match project or render settings” selected (default)?

Vegas will resample the frame rate to match the project settings, so the video from the DSLR will play back at normal speed, but reduced to 24fps – effectively Vegas is dropping some frames to match the project frame rate. This way, you can drop any video onto the timeline and it will play back at the normal (ie real time) speed.

If you want the input video to be played back proportionally slower (ie 24/60 of the “real-time” rate), you do need to adjust the video event’s playback rate. If you can get the correct rate, then each input frame maps to one output frame with none of the normal clever resampling.

It might also be possible to alter the frame rate value for the original files so that they will be treated as 24fps and will always play back in slow motion. I don’t know of any utilities that do this, though.

Steven-I’ve already tried that…and a dozen other options as well.
Matt-Thanks for the info. I did the same thing several yrs ago with Vegas 9 and some 60p MXF files and I didn’t have to change anything to get the slow motion. Seems wrong changing the playback rate but if that’s what I gotta’ do…

Thanks again! Preparing the shoot and edit my second feature with Vegas!
