Cut a project at beginning of the month with 6.0.1 and then upgraded OS from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11 and FCP from 6.0.1 to 6.0.4 on an Octobox (3GHz, Sept.’07).
    I have some issues:

    1. FCP 6.0.1 Project file doesn’t want to play nicely in 6.0.4. Everytime I so much as touch the timeline it crashes–even if all the media files are offline. My MBPro (2.6 GHz Core 2 Duo, May ’08) running OS 10.5.3 and FCP 6.0.3 opens that project file and plays nicely. But the Octobox doesn’t play nicely with that 6.0.3 project either. I’ve tried doing an XML 4 export/import and that works and doesn’t. Good–No more crashing/quitting. Bad–vector objects are all messed up and some movies and tiffs that are off-line in the timeline give me an error when trying to reconnect saying something like there are not enough tracks in the source file. Funny, the tiffs are only one layer as well as the movies. Projects created in 6.0.4 seem to be fine and not all projects in 6.0.1 are bad. Any ideas?

    2. I get wierd OS issues. I plug IN a Firewire external HD and get a message saying “The device you removed was not properly put away…” Huh? Sometimes that HD will show up as two instances in the Finder and three inside FCP, other times just one (as it should be). Huh?

If it were me, I’d run software update all the way until it says uncle, then open that errant file there. If it persists, create a new project file in the new updated software and copy and paste all from older baddy to new.

Do what Jerry says, but also fix permissions on your system drive using Apple Disk Utility. I have a sneaky suspicion that’s your problem.
