Are projects compatible between FC 6.0.2 and 6.0.3? I want to upgrade to be able to use a new Red log and transfer tool, but don’t want my system to be incompatible with others on the system (all Tiger and FCP 6.02)

    Thanks

[Michael Heldman] “Are projects compatible between FC 6.0.2 and 6.0.3?”

No. 6.0.3 projects cannot be opened by 6.0.2. Sad but true.

So, clone your system drive to a firewire drive and update one or the other.

Thanks for the virtually instantaneous responses from two of the experts.

Dang. I’m in a shared environment with several other stations. Projects move around. I suppose I could upgrade them all, but I usually wait a little longer after an update is released.

Any major problems with 6.0.3? I heard there were issues with a few HD formats, but these might not be relevant to us.

    Thanks again.

What about creating an XML from the 6.0.2 project and import that into the 6.0.3 project. We have done that with previous versions wit pretty successful results.

Not sure why Walter didn’t mention this possibility…

Because it’s not something that works reliably all the time. So we don’t do that in our shop.

I upgraded my system to 6.0.3 and along with in QT 7.4.5 and one problem I had was Live Type did not display any texture backgrounds.

Don’t know if that effects you or your type of work, but just pointing it out.

Since we work with many production companies and we exchange files quite often, AND we don’t always run the exact same version, we have used the XML transfer quite a few times with pretty good success. It might not be completely reliable, but when you need that 6.0.3 project to open in your 6.0.2 software, it is THE solution, at least to try.

I criticized Walter because you asked a question and I figured Walter would have at least suggested the XML workflow, again, at least to try it.

We don’t always know what your situation is and why you might need to do this, but we all get backed into corners and sometimes need a way out.

    For us XML has worked.

I have to second Walter here. XML’s from a 6.0.2 station to another 6.0.2 station are 99% accurate – but we caught it grabbing the wrong in/out frames on occasion.
