Please Help. I had originally edited a film in Final Cut 6 and have over a hundred “auto save” versions from those sessions. It sat for a while but I then took the latest version and did a polish on a different computer using the same version of Final Cut.

That went well and I took that latest session plus the new “auto save” versions back to my computer to then make a DVD. However, when opening, it says the project is unreadable or is “too new” for my version of Final Cut. It is the same version of Final Cut (6.0) on both computers, and the same version I originally used, so that just leaves that it is “unreadable”.

I tried opening the other auto saved sessions and they all get the same message. So I went back to my prior sessions that were completed on my computer (a while ago, but nothing has changed) and ONLY ONE will open normally. And that’s version 1.1. I am up to version 9.7, so that obviously does not help me. But every single other one gets the same message, from 1.2 to 9.6. During my prior editing I had opened many of those versions many times. In addition to the 1.1, I can open other different projects I have been working on just fine.

Why is this happening to this one project? I have opened them in the past, plus the latest session has another 100 auto saved versions that were just created with the same version of Final Cut. And if I can open one of them, you’d think I could open others. Is there anything I can do? Thanks.

I ran into the same problem this morning and after searching and scratching my head for a few hours, I trashed my preferences, restarted the machine, tested FCP and created a new user on my system. Nothing worked.

***Fortunately, before I emptied the TRASH when I trashed my prefs, I took the last RENDER FILE out of the trash and placed it on my desktop.***

I emptied the trash and tried a bunch of things until I got an error code -600 (serial number/program is not recognized by Apple)(ie: cracked software). I turned off my airport, opened FCP from the render file icon on my desktop and it worked!

I had to reconnect all my files, then I copied my BIN, I opened a new project and pasted the BIN in there, I created a new sequence and copied my old one into the new one and, finally, I backed up the new project to a different external drive.

The only thing missing from my project was a few clips from before my last rendering on the original project but that took only a few minutes to fix.

Hope this help, good luck and, trust me, from now on I’ll back up my projects twice a day!
