It used to be discouraged to edit projects on a computer’s internal drive. It was always recommended that you have a big drive sitting next to your CPU, so that if your computer went down, the project media wouldn’t go with it. We’re shooting more and more with 5D Mark IIs and IIIs and it’s time to upgrade two of our suites so they’re faster. We want about 5 TBs for each suite. What’s the general thinking nowadays? Should I get a computer with about a TB internal drive and a 5TB external drive or are people maxing out their internal storage and loading their media and working on it from there?

Oh and we don’t have a need to transport our media, meaning we don’t need external drives to move from location to location. The drives we buy with these suites will be dedicated to each suite. tx

As long as the drives are secondary internal drives, not the system drive, then you should be fine. I have 3TB internally aside from my system drive. Going to replace them wih 2TB soon.
