  • 5DtoRGB conversion corrupts GH2 footage into thermal cam

Posted by Ramez Silyan on July 12, 2012 at 6:47 pm

Every time I try to convert specific clips, the program completes the job, but the end result is this thermal cam black image with red light deal. When I use Clip Wrap, the files convert just fine, but the 5DtoRGB outputs better quality overall so I want to figure out the problem.

Settings are as follows on the 1.5.9 (64 bit)
    output: ProRes 422
    encoding: ITU-R BT .709
    Luminance: Broadcast Range
    Chroma: Default
    Gamma: 0

    the clips are 720p 60i

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Could be that the 5DtoRGB app is designed for Canon DSLRs…and not Panasonic GH2s. The name says it all.

Every camera manufacturer employs slightly different versions of the codecs. And that is maddening.

    720p 60i? I guess you mean 60 frame not 29.97 interlaced.

I suspect Shane might be right about the software not being desinged for that camera and it may be specific to that frame rate & frame size.

Do your friends have success with 720p 60 or 1080 29.97p?

Hey Ramez, are you able to convert clips from other cameras successfully? You might try to transcode a clip from a 5D or 7D to ensure the problem isn’t related to the GH2 footage. Also, if you want to send me a still frame of what you’re seeing, I’d like to have a look at it.

No, it’s not right. I use 5DtoRGB with GH2 footage all the time and it looks fantastic.
