5D mkII framerate
Posted by Steve Martin on November 28, 2009 at 12:18 amHello there! I was wondering what the actual framerate is for the Canon 5D MkII (29.97, 30?) and how that would effect my editing in FCP. I Have found different results in my searches. Thanks so much!

November 28, 2009 at 12:26 amThe 5D is 30p. A full 30
are you recording synced sound or using camera for audio?

November 28, 2009 at 1:50 amCanon has announced that “sometime” in the new year they’ll release a firmware update to let the camera do 24p. With the 7D and now the 1D Mark IV doing 24 (23.98), 25, 30 (29.97), 50 and 60 (59.94) I can’t imagine that the firmware update will only allow for 24 and keep 30 as the only other frame rate. It would seem logical to me that the update would give 5D MKII users the ability to leverage all the frame rates including the fractional frame rates.

November 29, 2009 at 6:55 pmThanks Robbie. Yes I heard about that announcement. I have been so far conforming my footage to 29.97 as per recommendation and wonder if I really need to be doing this, as some other sources tell me the camera actually shoots 29.97.

5DMK II is shooting true 30fps not fractional frame rate of 29.97
