5D Mk3 With Atomos Samurai Blade
So I have recently got my hands on an Atomos Samurai Blade and have hooked it up to my Canon 5D Mk3.
The 5D Mk3 is running firmware v1.2.1 and is therefor outputting a clean YCbCr 4:2:2 8-bit signal. The Samurai Blade is running firmware v5.1. The current configuration is the following:
5D Mk3 > Atomos Connect HDMI – HD-SDI Converter > Atomos Samurai Blade.
I am wondering if it is worth using the 10bit mode on the Atomos Samurai Blade as on paper the 5D Mk3 only outputs in 8bit colour space. Is using the ProRes HQ or the DNxHD220X worth the disk space if the 5D Mk3 output is only 8bit? Or could recording in 10bit on the Samurai Blade give me a little bit more flexibility when it comes to post and grading, or is there just a bunch of 0’s in the data so it would not effect anything and give me the same flexibility as having recorded in 8bit.
It is quite a crucial question as disk space is expensive and if I am wasting space with the ProRes HQ and could just use the ProRes LT instead.

I’d go with ProRes422. You don’t need the HQ. HQ is generally intended to bemused if working beyond 1920×1080.
