I can’t confirm that, but I can confirm the mic on the camera isn’t that great. You’d have more luck using a separate audio recorder (I have the ZoomH4n). Unless you ran a shotgun mic into the camera, but the tests I’ve heard of that aren’t very good either. To me, it just doesn’t sound good at all.

i battled the HDMI on my 5d, i finally gave up. IMHO canon didnt do a very good job with the manual on this subject.

i had to buy the canon hdmi, because my sony one wouldnt work.
