    Hi,

Wanted to get opinions out there on upres-ing vs downres-ing. I go back and forth on this myself and wondered what other editors thought.

I’m working on a documentary with a mix of footage between the Canon 5D + 7D. We are going to convert everything to Apple Pro Res HQ. 85% of the footage is 23.98fps 1920x 1080 from the 5D. 15% is 1280×720 59.98fps from the 7D. My inclination has always been, since there is much less footage at 1280, to upres it through Compressor to 1920. But I generally read the opposite.

    What are your thoughts?

It somewhat depends on what you want to deliver. But usually I would up convert to 1080, especially with the huge part of the footage being 1080 already.
