[Alex D’Eath] “My question is why does QT read the clip properly and when I import the clip FCS interprets the clip as something else.”

because you have told FCP to do that. –
Just because your camera is set to 60p does not mean you set your timeline to be 60p.

have you tried the steps I just posted about re-conforming in CT?
TURN OFF the REMOVE REDUNDANT Frames in the L&T prefs?

[Alex D’Eath] “It appears to my eyes that FCS is doing pulldown.”

that would be adding additional frames -NOT REMOVING THEM.

    Gary,

Apparently something is getting lost in translation.

#1 We always shoot 720p60. How do you get redundant frames with this setting? I was under the impression you got redundant frames when you shot 720p30. Hence the reason 720p30n gives you double the storage.

#2 I created my project using the settings for 720p60 in FCS on multiple machines across two versions of FCP(6.0.4 & 5.1.4) same results. I have added various comps to multiple projects all of them 720p60 and I get the same results.

#3 I will try using CT a use recommended but can I assume it will conform much the same way Compressor does when I use the DVCProHD 720p60 codec?

I have included a screen grab.

Thanks for all your help on this. Adobe has yet to call me back to discuss wether this is some sort of settings issue on the AE end and I don’t think Apple will much care if comps from another FX program don’t work quite right their editing platform.

    Thanks

    Al

the big deference here is CT does this instantly- whereas Compressor will take time to process the data.

That much I was able to see when I tested however, 59.94 was not an option. CT said the footage was already 59.94 and only gave me the options I listed earlier. Remember I said that my choices were 30,29.97,25,24 & 23.98. Also please remember that all comps coming out of AE read as 23.98. Including elements which contain no DVCProHD footage at all. Pure FX stuff. I appreciate your patience with me on all this.

    Gary,

Turns out it was an issue with AE. When my editor finished a piece in AE he would send it out using the export option. After speaking with an expert on the subject, who has been previously not available, I learned the best way to export is by using the Make Movie function. Import into FCP all done all good. Clips read as they should 59.94. As I suspected all along but could no answer for is it was a setting in AE.

    Thanks for all the guidance,

    Al
