  • 5.4 magnification on Canon lenses with Sony PMW 300?

    Hello everyone.

“This lens adapter applies a 5.4 magnification to the Canon EF mount lenses”….and so, my question is…what would this look like and how should I calculate this?

More specifics…I am excited that I just purchased a Sony PMW 300 (the successor to the EX-3). I want to use Canon EF Mount lenses with it. I will purchase an EF mount adapter but all the adapters (I am told it is the nature of the optics) apply a 5.4 magnification. I am hoping to buy a 14mm prime lens that has a Canon EF mount.

Being new to the interchangeable lens deal, I am not too sure how much or how little the 5.4 magnification will affect a 14mm prime lens. Do I actually multiply by 5.4? I don’t think so. If not, how do I understand what I really will be getting if I use a 14mm lens with an adapter that gives it 5.4 magnification? What’s the math that can give me an idea of what I am getting? Also, in general, with this 5.4 magnification, what should I watch out for? How much will this affect the quality? Thanks.
