    Hey Guys,
I thought I would just post a potential Raid setup and get your opinions on the build.
Would this setup be a viable option. I am talking mainly for 2k/4k post production editing and vfx compositing.
This could be setup as inside the computer (in the 5.25″ tray) or externally (like I have illustrated below)

This picture should illustrate what I’m going for:

I haven’t done any calculations yet, but given that it uses 6 x SATA 6gbs SSD straight to the PCI-E (via 2 x External mini SAS) it should be close to 2GB/s?

    James,

For $249.00 I doubt that mini-SAS card has any RAID capability, JBOD perhaps, but not RAID. What kind of card is it?

From the picture the card appears to be a NewerTech SAS RAID card.

    James,

Looks like a good solution if you’re on a serious budget and don’t need much space. Don’t forget to buy 2 cards.

I actually have one of these cards, but haven’t used it. Waiting for the occasion/need.
You’re right about the case. If it sits inside a PC case without cooling, the SSDs may overheat.

I was more thinking of this as an external solution but theres no reason why you couldnt pop this into the 5.25″ slot inside a PC.

The 5.25″ enclosure has two fans for cooling btw. See the specs here: https://amzn.to/11yckd1

The raid card is indeed the newertech. So it should be capable of running those speeds: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/MXPRMS6G2E/

Any feedback is welcome. Im keen to build this monster.
