I have finished editting a 100 min. concert film. The final audio has been provided to me from the audio engineer in 2 versions, a stereo Aiff mix and a Dolby 5.1 6 channel. How do I output these for mastering in DVD SP? Is it just a matter of importing the audio into FCP and outputting 2 versions thru Compressor, one with 5.1 and another with the aiff? Are there any special considerations as to audio track organization and order? Thanks.

Compressor has a special import module for 5.1 tracks that properly routes the various tracks allowing you to assign each track as L(left) R(right) C(center) LS(left surround) RS(right surround) LFE(subwoofer) etc. Since I don’t know which version of Compressor you are using I recommend that you use the help feature to bone up on the subject. There are settings affecting the relative mix levels of front to rear that can be set incorrectly, so beware, and make certain to test out your DVD in a room with nicely calibrated 5.1 monitoring before replicating.

The six track files are aif I presume. If so then you can make your AC3 file directly in Compressor. There is no need to import the files into FCP. Same for the stereo.

Unless you need to do editing to these files then importing them is not required to make the AC3 files.
