    Hi,
I have a project whereby some of my footage is shot in 25fps and some in 50fps. The 50 fps is with the view of slow motion, but some of it won’t be slowed down.
So, I have a project with both in the same timeline. I noticed that the 50fps footage looked better slowed down if Project Properties was set to 50fps (double PAL) rather than 25fps PAL, doing this had less blur. But then the 25fps footage had blur with this setting in Project Properties. So by disabling resample with the 25fps footage this appeared to work and solve this issue.
I just need to know if this was the right thing to do, is there a better way? Will this look ok when rendering the final project? And as this is in a 50fps (double PAL) project setting…do I render with the same setting?

Sorry if this is all a bit confusing but basically I just need to use both fps in the same project and have the same quality for both.

    Thanks in advance.

    Martin

You did things exactly right. Almost everyone turns off resample as the blur you noticed is much more annoying than any frame inconsistencies that might crop up. Whenever the frame rates are multiples of each other you will not have any problems at all which is the case with your project. If the frame rates are wildly different then you might find turning resample back on fixes fluidity in a render but for me the blur is always too noticeable.

    Thanks Matt.
So I’ve noticed that rendering needs to be 25fps so the project needs to be 25fps too? Or is it ok to keep project properties as 50fps and render down to 25fps?
The only thing that’s happened whilst playing about with it is that if I keep the project properties as 50fps, the 50fps footage looks a bit jolty when rendered down to 25fps, wheresas having the project properties set as 25fps the 50 fps footage looks better rendered to 25fps…….a bit of a headache.

It is best to keep the project properties equal to your final render fps so keep it set at 25. What is your plan to slow down the 50fps footage? Are you going to stretch events by sight or are you planning on a straight percentage of speed (like 25%, 50%, etc)?

Yeah the idea is to slow down some of the 50fps footage, but some of it will be normal speed too. I use the velocity to alter the speed as far down as 2% in places.
so, use both in 25fps project and render out to 25 fps? And the 50fps will be ok both normal and slowed down?

I would have the project match the final output. If you are delivering 25fps your project should be 25fps so that you are editing at the same frame rate that you are delivering. This also ensures that any generated media that you create (e.g., titles) are at the correct frame rate. Any 50fps footage that will not be slowed down should have resample disabled and it will look fine at 25fps. Any 50fps footage that needs slow motion should have resample enabled so that frames will be blended if needed to match the slow motion. BTW, you can do 1/2 slow motion with resample disabled because you have twice as many frames as you need. You only need to resample if you go slower than 50%.
