5-hour audio edit
Hello,
Way, way back in the ’70s, I was a disc jockey in college. The radio station had a 30th birthday party a few weeks ago and several of us from those early years spent literally 5 hours on the air talking about those old days and stuff we used to do.
What I got from the radio station was a 3GB (yes, GB) WAVE file burned to DVD. What I am doing at this moment is running it through SoundTrack, optimizing “Levels” and then using the SoundSoap plugin to clean out the background noise. As you can already know, this is taking a while on a 3GB file! It will soon be ready to take in to FCP for editing, though.
Actually, I say editing but I don’t really want to edit that much. What I’d like to do is listen to the whole thing and add “Markers” where DJs come in to the conversation during the five hour marathon, labeling each marker with the name of the DJ so that the user can easily jump around.
The question is that I’m trying to figure out the best way to master this. My first inclination is to go to DVD for the markers and easier navigation through the five hours. What would be better, though, would be to compress it into an MP3 though to make it a fraction of the size – probably around 300MB – but then I’d lose the markers and the reference, although an MP3 would play back on more machines.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to how best to tackle this one using Final Cut Studio? Does anyone know if “Markers” can be used to create new audio tracks on a CD (I know I wouldn’t get the label info, but perhaps I can print one up)?
Thanks in advance!
