Last year I did a video for the Art Museum here, shot 4×3 no big deal, and at that time they were playing it normal through a projector in their little theatre. So last week they called me back to talk about revising it, and they had it playing in a new theatre on a 16×9 plasma screen. Funny thing was, they somehow distorted it to fit though not in the way a plasma screen (that I know of) would distort it. It was more stretched on the outside thirds than in the middle. Quite bizzare to see graphics that moved side to side distort on the outside but not in the middle. After watching it for a while, my mind kinda got used to it and it looked normal.

Any idea how this is done?

    Have a wonderful day.

    This is called FlexView.

it sounds as if yours was being done by the display– the new Terranex Mini has this feature and with out graphics it works very well to convert 4×3 content to 16×9

If you want to make a new version that is a tru(er) 16:9 you can follow the steps that are in this tutorial… the tutorial isn’t really what you want to do, but it does have the answer in it…

    https://www.proapptips.com/proapptipsvideotutorials/879F6B61-CFF9-4FD1-8D43-FDF89605611A/6ECEC931-47F1-4BC1-8CD4-41FE4842B45D.html

It will tell you how to put a 4:3 sequence into a 16:9 sequence and make it work.

    Good luck,
