I was given a tvc which is 4×3 but the client wants the footage in 16 x 9
now i know i need to put anamorphic bars on them as i cant stretch it as it will look dreadful.

what i need to know is this correct —

    can i USE 1:85:1 BARS

    Please Advise

The only thing you can do is work in a 16:9 sequence, and blow the footage up my 33% (scale to 133). Yes, that will degrade the quality of the image considerably, and it will cut off the top and bottom of the frame. But that is what you do.

[Dan Newton] “now i know i need to put anamorphic bars on them as i cant stretch it as it will look dreadful.”

Bars are not anamorphic, bars are letterboxed. Anamorphic means stretched.

    1.85 is not 16×9. 16×9 is 1.78.

You should check with your client to find out what they want, anamorphic or letterboxed, 16×9 or 1.85.
