    Hi everyone…

    So here’s what I’ve done:

    * Shot in 4k 25p 4:2:2 Prores HQ on an Atomos Shogun using a Panasonic GH4.
    * I’ve then copied those files to my local drive (WD RAID 0)

    I have a 5k iMac and it’s fast, but even then it chokes playing back 4K even at 1/4. I know I can transcode proxies and edit off that to get the whole thing done faster but I’m trying to work out what to do.

    Questions:
    * Do I create a 3840×2160 sequence ? Or a 1920×1080 ?

    * Should I transcode the Prores HQ originals at the same 4K size ? I’ve shot at 4K so I can punch in and out for MS and CU’s. Or should they be transcoded to 1920×1080/1280×720 ? I would think if I transcode to a smaller size that I’d lose the ability to zoom in because the screen size is smaller and wouldn’t translate when I bring the originals back online (relinked).

    * I’m finishing to 1280×720 for YouTube, Facebook, etc – would I be best to edit at the highest size and export at 1280×720 so I can keep the quality ?

    Do a rough cut with 720p proxie.
    Do your zoom edits on that.
    Then replace with 4K files later.
    Keep the names intact.
    Ive doing the same with an inherited RED project.
    The proxies are HD and manageable (over 1100 clips).
    I did all the pan/scan in Resolve using the original RED files,then brought back to Premiere.

    Although wouldn’t editing on a 1280x720p proxy then not give me the screen real estate to zoom in (I know it won’t have the quality, but that compared to 3840×2160…)
