4K Raw shoot and 50 fps
Posted by Pekin Azer on May 13, 2013 at 6:42 pmHi all, is the 4K really only going to shoot Prores and then will it have the cineDNG Raw option?
Also, will it ever have an update (software) for 50/60 fps?
Thanks,
Pekin

May 13, 2013 at 8:11 pmBMD says the new BMPC-4K will shoot 10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes HQ (4K @ up to 884 megabits/sec., and 1080p at up to 220 mb/s) and lossless compressed 12-bit RAW CinemaDNG (4K & 1080p).
They haven’t announced what the data rates will be for the lossless compressed 12-bit RAW CinemaDNG recording modes.
Apparently AVID doesn’t currently offer a DNxHD 4K mode, so BMD might not bother including DNxHD in the camera.
BMD hasn’t said whether or not the BMPC-4K will ever support frame rates higher than 30 fps.

May 13, 2013 at 8:57 pmAlso: At NAB 2013, BMD said its lossless compressed CinemaDNG recording format might not be ready when the BMPC-4K first starts shipping (supposedly by the end of “July 2013”).
BMD said if lossless compressed CinemaDNG isn’t available by first-ship, it’ll be a free firmware update ASAP.
