4k Delivery & Presentation for Trade Show
Not specifically a PPro question, but I’m not sure where to ask…
The company I work for had to hire an outside company to produce some video work. The company decided to shoot in 4k with a RED Epic.
The projects are nearly complete, but we’re still trying to figure out how to display them at the trade show. We’ve found 4k monitors, but we’re having trouble determining which 4k player to utilize for playback. We’ve looked into the RED Ray player, but the problem is you only get the encoder software if you purchase the RED Ray. The company we hired for these videos does have a RED Ray, however, if we experience problems at the trade show, need to edit the video, and then re-encode, WE don’t have an encoder of our own.
We also realize we could connect a computer to the monitor and playback a Quicktime or something, however, my boss would like to use a dedicated player – something that is intended to play/loop video all day long.
My boss also looked into a Sony player, but according to him it only works with Sony monitors…
Anyone have an suggestions for a 4k player that should have no problems looping playback all day long?

Why do you need 4k playback?
Unless you have a very controlled environment like a theater and the trade show isn’t NAB and your client is a 4K equipment company then HD video is still excellent quality and 4K playback is not worth the expense.
Simple answer is transcode to 1920 x 1080 and burn a Blu-ray disk.

4k is being used more and more in Trade Shows for the “Wow” factor. We’re in discussions right now with a few clients about this.
I had some great insight from Gary Adcock during the Southeast Creative Summit on how to use 4k effectively in a trade show environment to simply blow people away and drive traffic to a booth.

It’s completely worth the expense when done correctly and honestly the expense is not all that much when you’re simply renting the gear and someone like my company is controlling the media playback.
