Bob, I just got done reading your “Changing the Game” article, and your “Do-it-yourself SAN” article that you mentioned in the first article. Great content, thank you. You know, I wasn’t even aware that it was possible to run edit bays using a SAN connected via ethernet; enlightening.

How many of you out there are using 4GigE SANs for editing? Is it fast enough? How much RT Effect support would I be loosing by going from my dedicated X-RAID (5.7TB setup as RAID-50) to 70 MB/sec. when editing ProRes HQ projects with lets say 10 streams with heavy color correction and filters?

Bob, in the article you said to use a Mac as your server if using Macs and a PC server for PCs. Is it possible to setup a workflow using Macs as clients that are connected to a NetApp running off of a Windows server?
