Starting with the Vegas build properties to the render settings, what is the proper way to put 4:3 video in a widescreen format? I would like to use the method where you copy the video track and put in underneath to fill the screen & blur it. I’ve seen so many different posts with different ways of doing this that I’m completely confused! I asked this on the Basic Forum, but got no reply (unusual).

    Thanks

Set your project to 16:9 widescreen. Drop your 4:3 media onto a track and you should see black “pillarboxes” on either side. Duplicate the 4:3 track and then open Pan/Crop on the lower track, right-click and select Match Output Aspect. This will cause the lower track to fill the 16:9 screen. Then drop a Gaussian Blur on the lower track and adjust to taste.

You can also do this for an entire project. Just edit the project in 4:3 and save it. Then open a 16:9 project and drop the 4:3 project into the timeline. It will act like a single piece of media. Then apply the method outlined above (i.e., duplicate, match aspect, and blur the bottom track)

Hi John, This is not related to this thread but I think you may be able to shed some light on this subject. Check out this thread on the HDV forum if you have time. thanks
