I shot a film on DV and discovered my Canon GL1 had 4 dead pixels half way through the shoot. Unable to re-shoot some of the scenes I am left with footage containing 4 dead pixels, I was wondering if there was a plugin or a krafty way I could mask the area with the dead pixels which sometimes sit right on my actors faces?

I went to the pluginsite and found this plugin:

    Visions FX
Fill: Mends holes in images by intelligently filling user-specified regions

Is this the route to go? Is there an alternative fix I’m obviously not aware of? Or am I going to have to live with this “damaged” footage?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Create a track matte or image matte that covers the four pixels. Offset a second instance of the clip. You will have some odd looking footage at times, but quite often, using the value of an adjacent pixel will be correct.

track matte, geez, why didn’t i think of that. I guess I was hoping a magical plugin would exist where I could clone stamp and voila! problem solved…..you never know these days.

it did work, although not perfect and a load of work to match each frame, its clearly not as painful to watch…

thanks very much for your help…
