3DStroke – colour data gets lost.
I posted this in the Trapcode forum but the tumbleweeds were rolling by whilst i was in there…seems to be a ghost town lately!!
I have been working on a project both at work and then at home during the evenings. To do this i have “collected” the files and work on the duplicate on the laptop.
Its the same version of the software (CS3) and fully licensed copies of the trapcode plugs on both machines. I’m also running it all on mac os10.4.11.
When i open the project on a machine other than the one on which the effect originated, i get an Adobe After Effects Warning – effect control conversion required in effect “3D Stroke”. Some effect controls will be reset.”
Unfortunately – this project is mainly frame by frame hand animation using the 3dStroke plug-in and lots of colour changes on the 3dstroke….and guess what is being reset? yup – all the colour data is being lost and replaced with pure white.
Anyone know a solution to get around this problem. Its kinda ruining the whole point of being able to work on the same project on different machines!

Its the same version of the software (CS3) and fully licensed copies of the trapcode plugs on both machines.
Is it the same release version of 3D stroke also? If not, try updating the oldest 3D Stroke to match the newest one.
If the version of 3D Stroke is not an issue, this might be a possible workaround:
1. Copy the keyframes of the stroke color.
2. Create a new solid and make it a guide layer (or just turn off the visibilty). Add the “Fill” effect to this solid.
3. Paste the colordata keyframes into the fill-color property.
4. Delete the stroke color keyframes.
5. Create an expression link between the stroke color and the “Fill” color keyframes by using the pick-whip, so that you control the stroke colors by adjusting/keyframing the “Fill” colors.
4. Save and collectMaybe it will work with this workaround? If not, you could try skipping the expression and just be prepared to cut and paste color keyframes between the stroke layer and the layer with the Fill effect each time you go back and forth between machines. If that doesn’t work either, I’m not sure what else to suggest..
