  • 3D Warp HQ not seeming to work after upgrade

I recently upgraded to Avid Symphony 4.2.

and for some reason on my image resize/3D warp effects, when I enable the HQ button, it doesn’t appear to having any impact at all anymore. It lights green and the render dot turns blue, it seems to render as normal. But upon playback it appears if I haven’t enabled the HQ tab. Any ideas?

We recently upgraded from Nitris Classic and media Manager to Nitris DX (still Win Xp) and Interplay.
Noticed right off the bat that 3D Warp degrades the quality of the media when resizing pix down. We were told by an on-site Avid specialist that,HQ,polyphasing etc aside, now 3D warp effects are processed differently than pre-DX or in classic Nitris (I’m paraphrasing here).
Since Avid Express 3D effects are processed through a different code than 3D Warp DVE efxs are,we decided to re-do our standard 3D warp efx with Express 3D PIP. Same paramaters and everything, but no pix quality loss upon resizing, etc.
I”m not sure if this helps, but just the same…

I responded to this message, but for some reason it was flagged for a “word”.
Since I posted no intentional cursewords, I’m hoping it was just a formality and perhaps I mistyped something. Anyway, hope you get my response.

that’s odd. No, I didn’t see any response except for this one.

    OK,I have a minute;I’ll post again.
Here’s my situation:we recently upgraded from Symphony Nitris to Nitris DX. Using WinXP and Interplay now, rather than the buggy Media manager.
Anyway,we noticed right off the bat that the 3D warp effects we often used were degrading pix quality (in SD work, but not 1080i HD work)upon resizing picture and titles smaller, or simply upon repositioning.
An on-site avid expert informed us that now 3D warp effects are coded differently than they used to be. We then decided to use Avid Express 3D Picture in Picture (PIP);he informed us that the code with PIP is different than with 3D warp.
Same paramaters completely as 3D warp, though, and familiar,so when we recreated our standard 3D warp effects…no more pix degradation.
FYI: 3D warp looks fine and operates the same in HD;but it’s the SD where it has changed for the worse. Bad code perhaps.
Anyway,I don’t know if this helps you or not,but just the same…

great… I’m online editor, so this would mean I have to create all of the offline editors resize moves one at a time as PIP’s. Thanks for the upgrade avid.
