3D using Pr Pro CS5.5 ?
Hi folks, I have been using my CS5.5, with my BlackMagic DL HD Extr 3D, to process vhs, vid8, hi8,dig8, & miniDV for DVD & internet use; and now I want to use the same Digital8 & Mini DV pal 25fps type footage from two identical cameras, recorded on 2 identical cam/tape recorders, for 3D. I use 2 old “Extreme” sport wide angle mini cameras mounted on a helmet. My 1st setup: horizontal, 65mm apart, centred @ 20m convergence = 0 deg, 11′, 15″ total angle. Using a bike led tail flasher to make visual sync signals, & remote commander to sync start both cam/recorders. Next trial setup will be 70mm apart & 10m convergence, for closer subject & enhanced 3D effect.
( My 2 cents worth in the pro/con convergence debate is: minimal (but known) convergence & min keystone distortion. you want your subject in or close to the middle of the screen (most of the time), for both screens/layers, thus they must converge at least a bit. Parallel side by side can bring the subject toward the inner edges. )
I currently watch my stuff as stereoscopic on 2 small identical TV’s side by side, and it works well, but I want to watch on a commercial 3D TV, & make useable files for flash drive to 3DTV inputs.Anyway my question is: can I do this, & how can I use the CS5.5 & BM DL HD Extr 3D to do what I want? Do I need extra ‘3D’ equipment or HDMI equipment? So far I’ve captured both streams, set both on timeline & synced them,edited, encoded (only 1 eye got encoded). Tried to import captured movie AVI files into BlackMagic to try it -no go. I’ve got good equipment, but just few idea; it shouldn’t be difficult. And yes I do realise 25fps SD convert to even 720p 3D won’t be a ‘good look’, but it’s a start.
Any input, pointers, etc. will be much appreciated.

Thanks for the tip kevin, I checked it out, but i’m not interested in stereoscopic playback, I didn’t know modern 3D capable TV’s were even bothered with S3D. I wasn’t specific enough, – not doing anaglyph or S3D; I want to format to play on active & passive domestic TV’s. There will be other sites more specific to that; I just haven’t found yet.

sorry if I’m leading you down an already traversed path, but have you looked into Cineform?
I don’t have much knowledge here, but they seem to have a pretty well established 3d workflow.
I actually viewed some work a buddy of mine did on PP CS5 using cineform on an active 3d display.
(underwater footage….WOW too cool)…
I know that he had integrated Cineform into his pipeline and he was able to deliver…
So there must be a way to get there…

The catch for me usually, is my old (cheap) camera equipment, I think I can use cineform studio premium if I capture both files, & import the AVI’s into the cineform to mux, as in video 3 of the stereoscopic workflows videos mentioned earlier.
I suppose/hope that AVI’s are AVI’s regardless of if they had analogue provenance, (in my case), so it should go to plan.
Can anyone confirm that all AVI’s are equal, and that any matched LH/RH pair of AVI files (SD or HD, 4:3 or 16:9) can be happily muxed by the cineform studio premium ?I really want to be sure it will work, I’ve been oversold enough semi-useful, (but not really suitable) stuff already. All the emphasis on latest GoPro cameras & HD makes me nervous of shelling out hundreds $$ when I still work with standard definition.

I’ll guess that Cineform will likely change your avi’s to some flavor of the cineform codec as part of the process…
