3D Text in an environment
Is it possible to get the following effect in Motion 4:

It seems like it ought to be what withe the addition of being able to move cameras and lights in 3D space. I’ve seen tutorials on how to make text appear as if it’s sitting on a flat surface like a map or something. But I have yet to see a tutorial for Motion to make 3D text appear as if it actually exists in the environment of a photo or something.

No reason you couldn’t do this in Motion – just add shape or generator as a ground plane, set it to receive shadows only, add a light and tell it to cast shadows.
