3D Text
Posted by Tyson Onaga on March 26, 2009 at 1:49 amIs there a way to create text that has a 3D tail? I’m looking for something like the opening credits to Doctor Who (BBC, the current series).

Not in Vegas alone. You would need a plug-in like Boris Graffiti to do that with Vegas. You could also use a stand-alone 3D title program like Blufftitler or Ulead Cool 3D.

March 28, 2009 at 1:36 amThanks for the advice. It seems like these apps export a movie which I can then incorporate into Vegas. Is the movie “transparent” (like Vegas’ Transparent Text)? I.e., I can put images in subsequent tracks and see the them beneath the animated text? Thanks again.

Yes, you have to make sure when you render them in the 3D Text application to use a codec that supports an Alpha Channel. This also means that the bit-depth of the video must be 32-bit not 24-bit. Uncompressed, and Quicktime Animation both support alpha channels. I use the Quicktime Animation codec for all of my overlay work.
