What I’m trying to make happen….

I want an earth spinning around and while it does lines to draw on from different points on earth and connect to others…all while the earth rot.

I created the earth with CC sphere fast and easy. Then i created a invisible belt around the earth that is used to give me the rot. of the cc shpere to link to other obj(by expression). Now…my 3d stroke spins with my earth fine as long. But when i try to move it or set points say i want it to start out in NYC and draw to london it jsut doesn’t.

Does anyone know how to do anything like that. I’m stuck only using AE..they dont have time or money for 3d or anythign else…again all i want is my 3d stroke to go around my earth as it spins but able to change points from where it starts and ends….THANKS

can you have the stroke animate on the earth texture before you add the cc sphere effect? that way it would all be one piece and everything should line up fine… you could even use plain ol’ stroke if you wanted (although 3d stroke has some nice extras, like motion blur and taper).

trying to get the start and end points to move with the globe otherwise would be pretty difficult…. maybe you could attach the start and end points to 2 3d nulls. those nulls would need to be parented to another 3d null that would need to be positioned in the center of the globe. that center null would then need to be parented/linked to the rotation. then with the bend feature in 3d stroke, you may be able to get the line to seem like it bends around the globe…

i think you’ll also need some layer space transform expressions to get the 3d null positions to the 2d start and end positions… not exactly my specialty, but some one else may have some good input there.
